Inspiration

Here are some films that might be interesting to watch as inspiration for the larp.

FILMS ABOUT MAKING FILMS

These are mostly about Hollywood rather than European film, and some of them are the wrong period… but they give an idea.

  • Show People (1928)
  • A Star is Born (1937, 1954, 1976 if you must)
  • Boy Meets Girl (1938)
  • Sunset Boulevard (1950)
  • All About Eve (1950 – about plays, but it’s close enough)
  • Singin’ in the Rain (1952)
  • Le Mépris (1964)
  • The Day of the Locust (1975)
  • Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
  • The Artist (2011)

GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM

The film movement that was strongly influential on Gottfried Himmelhaus’s early career. He has moved on from such artifice, of course, but there might still be Expressionist elements even in his more mainstream work such as Stolen Moments.

  • The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920)
  • Destiny (1922)
  • Nosferatu (1922)
  • Metropolis (1927)
  • M (1931)

And see also other notable German films of the period:

  • Der Blaue Engel (1930)
  • Gloria (1931)
  • Stürme der Leidenschaft (1932)

RICHMOND STUDIOS

… did not exist, but they’re kind of based on a cross between Gainsborough Pictures and London Films. Who made things like:

  • The Girl from Maxim’s (1933)
  • Moscow Nights (1935)
  • A Romance in Flanders (1937)

And were working towards lavish melodramas like:

  • The Man in Grey (1943)
  • Fanny by Gaslight (1944)
  • The Wicked Lady (1945)
